Houston Boychoir was established by the Houston Independent
School District in 1962 as The Singing Boys of Houston. Becoming an
independent arts organization in. 1991, today Houston Boychoir
continues to provide boys in the Houston Metropolitan area with the
exciting opportunity for vocal music study and choral performance. The
Choirs are regularly presented in concert throughout the city and are
often featured with Houston's major performing arts organizations
including Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the
Houston Bach Society and the Houston Tidelanders.
With over forty years of performance history, Houston Boychoir
has established a reputation of artistic excellence and continues to strive
towards this goal. The Choir was the first American boychoir to be
invited to participate in the International Festival of Boychoirs held in
Poznan, Poland and is the only American boychoir to be invited to the
Alumnat of the Thommanerchor—the same boychoir once directed by
Johann Sebastian Bach.In 2003, Houston Boychoir was honored to
spend an afternoon at the U.S. Supreme Court with, then, Justice Sandra
Day O’Connor and continues to proudly represent our city, state and
nation during annual concert tours across North America and throughout
Europe and Asia.
Houston Boychoir provides a unique, positive, and lifelong
experience that aims to contribute to each boy’s total potential. The
organization consists of two choirs characterized by their corresponding
skill level and commitment. Membership is open to all boys with
unchanged voices, ages 8 to 14, who demonstrate willingness to learn,
vocal talent and a strong level of commitment. Auditions are held
annually each spring and periodically throughout the year. For more
